How to Read a Tesla UV Map and Check Wrap Alignment

A UV map is a flat layout of the vehicle’s surfaces

Tesla’s blank template places body-panel areas on a flat PNG canvas. Add artwork to its white areas while preserving their positions and the transparent background. The finished image is then mapped onto the digital vehicle in Paint Shop.

Panels that touch on the vehicle can be far apart or point in different directions on the PNG. Do not assume that the hood is always at the top, that every rectangle is the roof, or that every model has the same layout. A straight line across the flat file is not necessarily a continuous stripe on the car.

These PNGs customize the digital vehicle visualization in Tesla Paint Shop. They are not measured print or cutting templates for physical vinyl. A wrap shop can use a design as a visual reference, but must prepare its own production artwork.

Choose the body generation before you start drawing

For Model Y, separate the original pre-Juniper body from Juniper Standard, Premium and Performance, then check whether the vehicle is the longer Model Y L. A 2025 registration date alone does not tell you which template to use.

For Model 3, the original body, Highland Standard/Premium and Highland Performance use three different files. The template center also separates Model S (2021+) from the Model S (2025+) Plaid template and lists Model X (2021+) and Cybertruck.

Choose by Tesla’s published model label and the actual vehicle. Do not reuse a similar-looking PNG from another trim simply because both images have the same pixel dimensions.

Blank template, finished wrap and preview: three different files

• Blank template: the white-panel PNG you download to start drawing. Keep a clean copy as the layout reference.
• Finished wrap: your artwork on that layout, exported as a PNG that meets the Paint Shop requirements. This is the file to upload.
• Preview: a rendered car image, screenshot or small gallery thumbnail. Use it to inspect the look or share an idea; do not upload it as the UV wrap file.

Check panel placement with a simple test design

If a panel is hard to identify, temporarily mark that area with a distinct color or short label, then inspect it in a compatible preview. Check left and right sides, front and rear. Keep these markers on a separate editing layer and remove them before the final export.

Where SkinMyCar provides a 3D preview, rotate the car to inspect door graphics, logo direction and the joins between adjacent panels. Some previews use approximate geometry; use the actual vehicle visualization to confirm the final placement.

• Text and logos: check that they read in the intended direction on both sides; AI-generated text may need manual correction.
• Stripes: compare the height and angle where doors, fenders and bumpers meet. Correct each panel rather than drawing one line across the entire canvas.
• All-over patterns: check the edges even when the design can tolerate discontinuities. A pattern does not repair a wrong vehicle template.
• Transparency: keep the original mask. Avoid flattening the whole canvas onto a solid background.

Cybertruck uses a different canvas shape

The official Cybertruck blank template is 1024×768, while the other blank templates currently offered here are 1024×1024. Preserve the original canvas and panel positions rather than stretching Cybertruck artwork to make a square.

This is why a blanket rule that every Tesla wrap must be square is misleading. Follow the model-specific file and check Tesla’s official repository when requirements change.

Export the finished design and install it

Download the finished PNG after checking the layout. The shared file requirements below apply to the saved export, not to its on-page preview.

• Export a real PNG, no larger than 1 MB. Renaming a JPG or WebP to .png does not convert it.
• Use the original template dimensions. Tesla lists 512×512 to 1024×1024 pixels; its Cybertruck template is 1024×768. Keep that layout instead of stretching it into a square.
• Keep the file name within 30 characters, using only letters, numbers, underscores, dashes and spaces.
